Choosing the Best Microcurrent Device: ZIIP HALO vs NuFACE Trinity+ & Medicube Age-R Booster Pro

The ZIIP HALO Nanocurrent and Microcurrent Facial Toning Device is made to deliver clinic-grade treatments from the comfort of your home. Through subtle electrical currents, this device revitalises, sculpts, and calms the skin to reveal a captivating complexion.

But at $399.99 USD, you might be wondering if the ZIIP HALO is worth your hard-earned cash. In today’s article, we will explain the technology and review the benefits of this device and give a comparison to two other similar tools on the market. Enjoy!

ZIIP HALO Overview & Benefits

This skincare device uses a combination of microcurrents and nanocurrents to lift and sculpt, as well as target breakouts and fine lines. Here’s how the technology works:

Microcurrents – low-level electrical currents that replicate the skin’s natural electrical signals. They improve circulation and increase the production of collagen, which is the key to the skin’s strength, elasticity, and hydration.

Nanocurrents – smaller electrical currents that reach deeper into the skin to repair at a cellular level. Nanocurrents promote the healing and regeneration of your skin cells.

This device offers 14 treatments and 4 treatment plans, controlled by a handy app. This allows you to adapt each at-home facial to your skin and schedule. If you’re on a time crunch, you can have a fresh face in as little as four minutes!

To ensure the effectiveness of the facial experience, the device must be used in conjunction with the ZIIP conductive gel. While other brands’ gels are simply for conduction, ZIIP’s gels are more than tools – they are active skincare.

ZIIP has formulated four different conductive gels, tailored to four key skin concerns. Each gel includes its own selection of powerful ingredients:

  • Silver gel for hydration – hyaluronic acid, aloe, and crushed pearl
  • Crystal gel for a glow – glutathione, veronica flower, picea mariana extract
  • Golden gel for a collagen boost – niacinamide, hematite, and bio-placenta (featuring 5 growth factors)
  • Clear gel for soothing breakouts – mint, cucumber, aloe vera

As well as conducting the currents into your skin, the gel promises to improve skincare absorption by 109%, by way of electroporation. This process allows the device’s electrical currents to create temporary pores, which allows all of your skincare to be absorbed deeper into the skin and work its magic.

How To Use the ZIIP HALO

Step 1 – Begin by removing any makeup, cleansing the skin, and gently patting it dry.

Step 2 – Apply 4-8 pumps of ZIIP’s conductive gel to the face.

Step 3 – Press the power button. This will activate the default treatment: The Lift. If you would like to use another setting, sync the ZIIP device to your ZIIP app and choose from the 13 other options.

Step 4 – Starting on one side of your face, move the silver spheres upward from your jawline to your forehead. The device will vibrate every 5 seconds, letting you know it’s time to move on to the next section.

Step 5 – Once the device beeps, it is time to repeat the process on the other side of your face.

The ZIIP HALO will turn off automatically when the full treatment is complete.

When Can I See Results from the ZIIP HALO?

You can expect to see brighter, tighter skin after 6 weeks of use. For optimal results, you can use the device 3-5 times per week.

ZIIP HALO vs Other Microcurrent Devices

While there are other microcurrent devices on the market, what differentiates the ZIIP HALO from the rest?

  • Nanocurrents: The ZIIP HALO combines both microcurrents and nanocurrents, whereas some other devices only use microcurrents. This means that it is not reaching the cells at a deeper level.
  • Personalization: The ZIIP app offers a wider range of custom treatment routines, meaning you have more treatments options.
  • High-Quality Gels:  ZIIP’s Golden Gel features bio-placenta, hematite, niacinamide, and 24-karat gold for a healing and high-class experience. Their other gels also have silver and crystal actives.
  • Travel-Friendly: The ZIIP HALO is lighter than some other alternatives, making it more portable and convenient.

ZIIP HALO versus NuFACE Trinity+

The NuFACE Trinity+ retails for $395 and uses microcurrents, which mimic the skin’s natural electrical signals. These signals awaken the facial muscles and skin cells, encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is in charge of boosting collagen and elastin.

While the ZIIP HALO uses two types of currents, the NuFACE Trinity+ uses only microcurrents. This means that the device offers a similar lifting and firming treatment, but doesn’t offer cellular repair and regeneration. So, if you are looking for assistance with acne, pigmentation, or dullness, the NuFACE Trinity+ is not the device for you.

The NuFACE Trinity+ has 3 intensity levels, whereas the ZIIP HALO allows the user to choose from 26 modes. For an additional cost, NuFACE does offer separate attachments such as their LED wrinkle reducer and lip and eye tool. So, the device can be upgraded and personalised, depending on your specific needs.

ZIIP HALO versus Medicube Age-R Booster Pro

Next up for comparison is the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro. This costs $220 and uses a combination of microcurrents, EMS, electroporation, and electric needles. It combines a variety of technologies into one product to offer anti-aging, skin tone evening, and contouring.

However, the electroporation technology uses high-voltage currents, which could potentially be irritating and too abrasive for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Some users have noted stinging and sensitivity after use.

One advantage of the Medicube option is its LED therapy feature. The device features 5 LED colors for targeted care:

  • Red – stimulates collagen and reduces wrinkles
  • Blue – fights pore-blocking bacteria and soothes inflammation
  • Green – evens skin tone and reduces hyperpigmentation
  • Orange – brightens dull complexions
  • Purple – enhances the absorption of skincare

Unlike other microcurrent devices, this one doesn’t require a conductive gel and can be used with any moisturising skin product. Also, the device does arrive with a treatment app, but it works well without needing it.

How ZIIP HALO Helped With My Hyperpigmentation and Redness

My experience with the ZIIP HALO was extremely positive. While I’m still young enough that I haven’t developed any deep-set lines, I have started to notice some fine lines here and there that this helped with.

My biggest concern however, being very acne prone, is hyperpigmentation from post acne marks that I had picked at (oops!) and boy did this product deliver.

As someone who is acne prone, I also always check skincare products’ ingredients for any pore clogging ingredients before putting anything on my face.

To my pleasant surprise, the electric complex, crystal and clear gels are all completely free of pore-clogging ingredients and safe to use on acne prone skin.

I (and my skin) loved the electric complex, clear and silver gels that I tried out and I can’t wait for the crystal and golden gels to come back in stock to try those out too.

My favorite gels were the clear and silver gels, which I left on as an intensive mask after finishing my treatments to boost their skin clearing and hydrating properties and I got some impressive results.

As you can see in my below before and after, the ZIIP HALO did a great job of evening out my skin (goodbye redness), reducing some of my hyperpigmentation spots and overall brightening my complexion by boosting my collagen.

Review: My Final Thoughts

While the NuFACE Trinity+ offers beginner-friendly toning and lifting, and Medicube Age-R Booster Pro offers a range of anti-aging treatments, we would still recommend the ZIIP HALO as the best microcurrent device.

Not only does it treat youthful acne and signs of aging, it has a range of app-based routines to choose from, and clinic-level waveform combinations. These qualities make it a standout investment for your skin.
