CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 3 Review: My Experience

If you’ve been curious about LED light therapy but have always felt a little overwhelmed by all  the different wavelengths, colours and devices available, the new CurrentBody Skin LED Red  Light Therapy Face Mask: Series 3 is one I think is particularly interesting.

I’ve been a long time user of the CurrentBody Series 2 mask (check out my review here) and have achieved great results with it.

But what immediately stood out to me about the Series 3 is that it is  much more personalised than any other LED mask on the market.

Instead of essentially buying one device for one main skin goal, this mask is designed to adapt  as your skin changes.

And that, to me, is one of its biggest selling points.

Skin doesn’t stay exactly the same throughout your life.

Your concerns can change with age, seasons, weather, travel, hormones, lifestyle, sun exposure  and even just what your skin happens to be doing at a particular time.

I love the idea of having one LED mask that can evolve with me rather than eventually becoming  a device that no longer feels relevant to my current skin concerns.

What is the CurrentBody Series 3?

The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask: Series 3 is the brand’s latest generation of its  popular LED face mask, but with a major upgrade: personalisation

CurrentBody describes it as its first fully personalised, app-connected LED mask. It combines six  wavelengths with the ability to create customised treatments through the CurrentBody app.

The six wavelengths are:

Red light – 633nm: focused on visible signs of ageing and skin brightness

Near-infrared – 830nm: designed to support firmness and elasticity

Deep near-infrared – 1072nm: targeted toward deeper signs of ageing, including  wrinkles

Blue light – 415nm: designed to target spots and breakouts

Green light – 532nm: focused on pigmentation and brightness

Yellow light – 590nm: designed to target the appearance of redness and irritation

CurrentBody also offers four preset treatment modes, so you don’t have to understand every  wavelength to get started. There are options focused on anti-ageing, clearing, complexion  correction, and brightening.

But if you do want to get more specific, this is where Series 3 gets really interesting.

You Can Actually Build Your Own LED Treatment

One of my favourite things about the Series 3 is that you can create your own treatment rather  than being limited to a single pre-programmed setting.

Through the CurrentBody app, you can choose the wavelengths you want to use and where you  want them on your face. You can save up to eight custom treatments, which makes it much  easier to tailor your routine to whatever your skin is currently doing.

For example, right now my main focus is acne and redness

I’m not particularly interested in using the exact same treatment forever.

At the moment, I can incorporate blue light when I’m dealing with breakouts and use yellow light when redness is more of a concern, while still incorporating the foundational red and infrared wavelengths.

But I can already see how my treatment could change over time.

Maybe after summer I’ll be more concerned about pigmentation and uneven tone, so I’ll want  to incorporate more green light.

During the winter, when my skin tends to feel different because of colder temperatures and  drier indoor air, my priorities may change again.

And eventually, as I get older, I know my focus will shift more toward deep wrinkle prevention  and treatment, firmness and overall brightening.

That’s when the anti-ageing-focused wavelengths become much more important to me.

This is what makes the Series 3 feel like more of a long-term skincare investment rather than a gadget that addresses one specific concern.

Six Wavelengths for Different Skin Concerns

The technology behind LED light therapy can get complicated very quickly, but I actually find the  six-wavelength system fairly easy to understand when you break it down.

The three foundational wavelengths are red, near-infrared and deep near-infrared. These are  the wavelengths I think of as the long-term, anti-ageing foundation of the device.

Then there are three targeted wavelengths: blue, green and yellow

Blue is the one that interests me most when I’m dealing with breakouts. Green is designed  around pigmentation and brightness, while yellow is focused on redness and irritation.

CurrentBody’s independent testing reports improvements associated with each of these  wavelengths.

For example, its published testing found an improvement in the appearance of skin brightness  with 633nm red light, elasticity with 830nm near-infrared, and wrinkle appearance with  1072nm deep near-infrared.

Its testing of the additional wavelengths also reported reductions in the appearance of spots,  pigmentation and redness.

What I appreciate is that I don’t have to decide today what my skin will need five or ten years  from now.

The mask can change with me.

MyDose™: More Light Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Better

Another feature that makes the Series 3 different is MyDose™

One thing I learned while looking into LED therapy is that it’s not simply a case of assuming that  more power equals better results.

CurrentBody explains that the amount of light your skin can absorb is specific, which is why the  Series 3 doesn’t just let you turn everything up to maximum and call it a day.

Instead, MyDose™ works in the background while you’re creating your treatment. You choose the wavelengths and their placement, and the technology calculates the optimal and safe dose for the treatment.

I actually really like this approach because it takes all  of the guesswork out of customising an LED routine.

Think of it a little like the difference between randomly choosing skincare actives and having a  system that automatically determines  the  appropriate amount for your particular treatment.

MyDose™ calculates the dose, while Veritace® ensures that the mask delivers what it’s supposed to deliver (Veritace is the testing process where CurrentBody ensures every individual LED in every mask is tested to check that they contain the exact wavelengths proven to work in the clinical studies).

My Experience Using the Series 3

The biggest thing I’ve noticed about incorporating the Series 3 into my routine is how easy it is  to actually stick with.

LED masks aren’t particularly useful if they’re sitting in a drawer.

I like being able to put the mask on while I’m doing something else — watching TV, answering a  few emails or winding down at the end of the day.

Once it becomes part of your routine, it doesn’t feel like a huge additional step.

The mask itself is made from flexible silicone and sits fairly close to the face, which I prefer to  bulkier LED devices.

The eye inserts are also helpful for making the experience more comfortable.

I’ve also found the app component makes the Series 3 feel much more modern than a  traditional LED mask.

Rather than simply pressing a button and doing the exact same treatment every time, there’s an  actual element of personalisation.

And, honestly, that’s the feature I keep coming back to.

I’ve been really impressed with the results I’ve seen since incorporating the CurrentBody LED  Face Mask Series 3 into my routine.

My skin looks noticeably calmer and less red, and I’ve found that my breakouts seem to settle  more quickly when I’m consistent with my treatments.

Overall, my complexion has been looking clearer, smoother and more even, with a healthy looking glow that I really love.

I’ve also noticed that my skin feels more balanced and looks brighter, which has made a  difference in how confident I feel going makeup-free.

I love that with continued use I’m also supporting my skin’s long-term goals, particularly when it  comes to maintaining firmness and preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Why I Think the Longevity Is So Good

LED masks aren’t exactly an inexpensive skincare purchase, so one of the questions I would ask  before investing in one is: Will I still want to use this a few years from now?

With the Series 3, I think the answer is much more likely to be yes because the device isn’t tied to just one concern.

My skin today isn’t necessarily going to have the same priorities as my skin five years from now. Right now, I can see myself focusing on breakouts and redness

Later, I may be much more focused on pigmentation and brightening, especially after periods of  more sun exposure.

And further down the road, my priorities will probably shift toward deep wrinkle prevention,  fine lines, firmness and maintaining overall skin quality

The fact that the Series 3 has six wavelengths means I don’t have to replace the entire device  every time my skin concern changes.

That’s what I mean by longevity of use. It’s not just about how long the physical device lasts — it’s about how long it remains relevant to your skin

You Can Even Share Your Treatments

Another fun feature is the ability to create and share your customised treatments.

Share my skin concerns? Try out my customized treatment using the code above (8BMH6)!

Once you’ve built a treatment in the CurrentBody app, you can generate a shareable code that  someone else can use to send that treatment directly to their device.

I could see this being particularly useful if you have friends or family members who have similar  skin concerns. Instead of trying to explain which wavelengths you’re using and why, you can  simply share the treatment.

It’s a small feature, but it makes the Series 3 feel much more like a connected beauty-tech  device rather than a traditional skincare tool.

Is the CurrentBody Series 3 Worth It?

For me, the biggest appeal of the CurrentBody LED Red Light  Therapy Face Mask: Series 3 is its  flexibility.

It’s not just an anti-ageing mask. It’s not just an acne mask. It’s not just a brightening mask.

It’s essentially a platform that lets you change your LED treatment depending on what your skin  needs.

That adaptability is probably the thing I appreciate most about the Series 3. Skincare is rarely one-size-fits-all, and our skin certainly doesn’t stay the same forever.

The ability to customise the mask, save multiple treatments and have MyDose™ calculate the  appropriate dose makes this feel like a much more future-proof beauty investment.

Bottom line: If you’re already interested in LED light therapy and want something that can grow  with your skin rather than locking you into one treatment, the CurrentBody LED Red Light  Therapy Face Mask: Series 3 is definitely one I’d look at.
